PBIS

Welcome to Chester-East Lincoln School, we’re glad you’re here and we thank you for the opportunity to partner with you in your child’s education.

What is PBIS?

PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports

PBIS creates and maintains safe, nurturing learning environments where teachers can teach and students can learn.  It is a proactive systems approach to establishing the behavioral support and social culture needed for all of our students to achieve the social, emotional, and academic success required to prepare them for a promising future.

There are many components to PBIS at CEL; they revolve around a central theme, RESPECT.

T.A.P

T.A.P notes are used as a communication tool between Teachers and Parents.  T.A.P. notes will be sent home with the student when something small in nature has happened, but you should still be aware that it occurred.  We all make mistakes from time to time; but it is our hope that a T.A.P note will help the child learn from those mistakes and think twice before repeating the behavior in the future.  If your child receives a T.A.P. note there’s no need to get upset with them and turn it into a negative situation, please discuss it with them and advise them of some better choices they can make in the future.

Major discipline referrals are more severe in nature and the student is sent to the office to be dealt with by the administrator.  Three T.A.P. notes for the same offense or six cumulative T.A.P. notes are the equivalent of a major.

Parent/Guardian and Student Responsibilities
A T.A.P note or a major referral form is sent home in order for us to get support from our parents/guardians and make sure you are as informed as possible.  A referral shouldn’t be thought of as something terrible but used as a learning tool in order to make a positive change in a child’s behavior so they can get the most out of their education.  If your child receives a T.A.P. note or a major referral it is their responsibility to bring it home and discuss it with you.                                                                                        In the event that your child receives a major referral, we ask that you sign it and make sure it’s returned to their homeroom teacher the next school day.

If you have any questions in regards to a T.A.P. note or a major referral please contact the school in order to discuss your concerns with the referring staff member, or administrator.  Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Matrix (Panther Code of Conduct)

The School-wide expectations allow the staff to remain consistent so students will know what to expect as they advance from one grade level to the next.

Expectation Station

Teaching behaviors like academics so our students are aware of what we expect from them.  Four times throughout the school year, generally when a new grading period begins the entire student body will travel to the different environments (bus, cafeteria, classroom, hallway, playground, and restrooms) of the school where expectations for that environment are taught, modeled, and practiced.

Cool Tools

Chester’s Tool Box

What is a Cool Tool?

A Cool Tool is a behavioral lesson plan.  They are used to teach expectations in a similar way that we approach academics.  Cool Tools are taught every Monday and reinforced throughout the week.  Each week we focus on a different topic.

At Chester- East the entire staff is working hard to ensure our students, your children, have access to the best quality education possible, and we don’t want anything to interfere with the learning process.

We are asking for your support.  Reinforce positive behaviors you observe at home, and spend some time discussing the importance of the Cool Tool topic with them on a weekly basis. Let your child know through your own personal experiences how beneficial the behavior lessons can be.

Students receive Treasure Tickets for displaying positive behaviors (following expectations).

  • (Gold) Treasure Ticket- Once a student receives this two-part ticket they need to sign the bottom and cut on the dotted line, the top half may be taken home to show parent(s)/guardian(s).  The bottom portion will be redeemable for prizes in Mrs. Albert’s School Store.

Mrs. Albert’s School Store/The Treasure Chest

Treasure Chest

The treasure chest is located in the learning center and is available for students in grades kindergarten-3 to redeem treasure tickets for merchandise.

CELebrations

CELebrations are held monthly to celebrate the success of our students who behave appropriately and follow the expectations by showing respect for community, environment, and learning.  School-wide CELebrations will also be held during the year and include the entire student body regardless of the number of referrals they have received during those particular months.  This is an effort to get them to realize what they are missing so their behavior will improve and they will earn the right to attend more CELebrations.

Re-Teaching

If students are unable to attend the CELebration due to an excessive number of referrals, they will spend that time being reminded of the expectations in order to be more successful in the future.

*CEL Student of the Month

One student from every grade level is chosen to represent their class.  From the nine nominated students, one will be selected as the student of the month.  All of the nominees and the student of the month will be announced and presented with a certificate of recognition at the beginning of the monthly CELebration.

Parent Expectations

  • Make sure your child is at school on time and prepared.
  • Always check your child’s homework to make sure it has been completed and is ready to turn in.
  • Look through your child’s folder or student planner (book bag) every day.  Sign and return necessary forms.
  • Drop students off outside the building and pick them up outside at 3:05 p.m. if they are not riding the bus.
  • Call the school and report the absence of your child by 8:30 a.m. (732-4136).
  • Make up work can be picked up (in the office) after school at 3:15 p.m.
  • On returning to school after an absence, a student should have a signed note from the parent.
  • Please wait in the office for your child to sign out for appointments.
  • If you need to talk to a teacher- send a note with your child or call and leave a message in the office. They will contact you during a planning period or after school.  Mid-day calls disrupt instruction.
  • Teachers work hard to group students to allow for the best possible learning environment. Please allow the teacher’s discretion when assigning class lists.
  • Keep lunch and milk payments up to date.
  • Please support our PBIS program by modeling positive and respectful behavior.
